Politics by Podcast

January 4, 2011

Over the last several years, a number of news organizations have begun producing regular podcasts, many of which are available FREE using Itunes or another application. It’s rare that a week goes by these days that I don’t listen to the full complement of podcasts from the Economist, New York Times, and the New Yorker. My commute or (too infrequent) trips to the gym would be much less interesting without them. Here are a few I particularly like (did I mention they’re free?):

The Economist produces several podcasts each week. True story: Listening to free Economist podcasts convinced me two years ago to begin subscribing to the magazine again. Free content pays! The New York Times “Political Points” is consistently excellent, as are “Weekend Business” and “Science Times.” I never miss a week of The New Yorker’s “Political Scene.” BusinessWeek‘s podcasts are interesting (but honestly I liked it better before they were taken over by Bloomberg). The BBC also produces a dizzying array of podcasts – some interesting. In addition, a bunch of news programs have begun making their broadcasts available as downloadable podcasts: PBS News HourWashington Week, 60 Minutes, and Democracy Now. Who needs a TV?
