1111 Constitution Avenue

The Internal Revenue Service Headquarters Building, 1111 Constitution Avenue Northwest, under construction – I’m not sure of the date, but the building’s construction lasted from 1928 to 1936.

The only other prominent structure in the picture, what we now call the Old Post Office, marks Pennsylvania Avenue. A half Century earlier this was Tiber Creek, which ran along what is now Constitution Avenue. The IRS building was supposedly built on top of the creek.  It is now part of Federal Triangle, a collection of mammoth government office buildings constructed through the 1930’s.
