This cool set of maps of race/ethnicity in American cities by flickr userĀ Eric Fischer is making the rounds. The data represented here are 2000 Census blocks. Red is White, Blue is Black, Green is Asian, Orange is Hispanic, Gray is Other. Each dot represents 25 people.

I’m particularly intrigued by how the Northern cities turn out. I’m no expert (to say the least), but cities like Detroit, MI (above) seem to show a much clearer pattern of racial segregation. That line north of downtown Detroit, separating white from black – that’s the storied 8 mile road.
